This is part two of how Then The Trees Said Hello was created.
If you didn’t get to read part one, you can find that here.
I promised to tell you how the idea of Sara hearing trees came to light.
And I will tell you.
I don’t know.
It was like that was always part of the story. I feel like trees are always wanting to communicate with us people. They are so much older than us, as a species, and often as individuals. When we are backpacking and surrounded by trees for days and nights, I feel a unity and bond for the trees.
There’s animal communicators, why not tree communicators?
When I first started hearing Sara in my head, I think her being able to communicate with trees was one of the first things she told me about. That was the gist of her story. She wanted people to start thinking about the possibility that trees and plants are communicating with us. Or maybe I wanted people to start thinking about that.
It may be a little deflating that there isn’t some bigger story around Sara hearing trees, but there it is.
On another note. There have been some people who think that Sara’s relationship with her family is somewhat autobiographical. It isn’t. I have a great relationship with my brother and parents.
That was all Sara. Are there parts of Sara and Maxine that are from me? Yes, absolutely. But they’re more general like in how I feel about the environment in general. I learn about myself every time I write.
A friend told me his favorite story of how Then The Trees came to be, is Maxine’s story.
So next time I’ll share about her.
Until then.
Happy Day!
